SCHOOL BASED PROGRAMS

8 week cultural package (1 day a week)

This program is designed to immerse people in Aboriginal culture. It allows young Aboriginal people to practice our cultural traditions that have been in place for thousands of years and gives them a strong sense of identity and empowerment. For non-Indigenous people, it allows them to explore and learn about our culture in a fun and interactive environment. Workshops are delivered for one hour sessions. Workshops include; Aboriginal dance and song, Aboriginal art, artefacts, weaving, Aboriginal games, native plants and Aboriginal languages.

Mentoring Program including Identity, Leadership and Engagement

This program was developed to help build resilience, respect, and self worth. This program is generally targeting students from Year 5 through to Year 12. It includes topics surrounding; leadership, education, cultural identity, self identity, and role models to reinforce the value of education and career pathways.

Disengaged Youth Program

Disengaged Youth Programs are designed to empower our young people to have the ability for self-autonomy. These programs focus on connecting Indigenous youth to culture and developing necessary skills and characteristics which enables them to have a positive sense of self identity. This program is mostly targeted at students in secondary schooling. The programs themes are;

  • Resilience building

  • Self worth and confidence

  • Cultural identity

  • Career aspirations

  • Job readiness workshops

Aboriginal Language Program

This project will enable the community to strengthen the cultural dimensions of their Aboriginal identity, to learn more about their community’s place in Indigenous Australia. The satisfaction of engaging with the study of Aboriginal languages and developing communication skills in language will contribute to community enrichment. The program can be structured towards the school needs. Our language programs can cater for students from Preschool to Year 12 and can be delivered in one day workshops or more extensive blocks throughout the year. Most of the language discussed and taught is Gommeroi language. However students will have opportunities to explore their own language and the local Awabakal language.

Culture and Leadership Camps

The Culture and Leadership camps are intense three day (two nights) of workshops that incorporates a mixture of our specialised programs. The programs will be tailored to suit various audiences and it will include things such as; Aboriginal dance and song, artefact demonstrations, Aboriginal art workshops, traditional games, native plant and food workshops, tour of significant sites, storytelling, weaving workshops, career guidance and pathways, education support, team building, identity and self esteem workshops, and healthy habits.

NAIDOC Packages

If your school or organisation is looking for someone to help make your NAIDOC celebrations a success then contact us at Winanga-y Dreaming. We can provide the organisation and delivery of NAIDOC day celebrations and activities. Includes things such as; cultural workshops, performances, and limited catering options available. Additionally, the schools can purchase a ten week culture package and have Aboriginal students from their school perform at their NAIDOC celebrations. 

Example NAIDOC day;

  • 6 workshops (artefacts, weaving, language and song, Aboriginal dance, traditional games, Aboriginal art)

  • Assembly performance

  • Coordination and Assistance with rotations and planning throughout the day.
